What is Myasthenia Gravis (MG)?

Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by weakness and rapid fatigue of any of the muscles under your voluntary control. It is caused by a breakdown in normal communication between nerves and muscles at the neuromuscular junction.

How it Happens

Antibodies produced by the immune system block, alter, or destroy acetylcholine receptors (AChR) or MuSK receptors at the neuromuscular junction, preventing muscle contraction signals from being properly received.

Symptoms (Fluctuating & Fatigable Weakness)

  • Drooping of one or both eyelids (Ptosis)
  • Double vision (Diplopia) that improves when one eye is closed
  • Difficulty speaking (dysarthria), chewing, or swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Weakness in neck muscles ('dropped head') and limb muscles
  • Weakness that worsens with physical activity and improves after rest
  • Myasthenic Crisis: Severe breathing muscle weakness requiring emergency support

Diagnostic Tests & Treatment

Dr. Rajni Fulwariya performs Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS), Single Fiber EMG, and antibody testing (Anti-AChR, Anti-MuSK), providing Cholinesterase inhibitors (Pyridostigmine), corticosteroids, immunomodulators, and thymectomy coordination.
